Believe it or not, there was a time that Grandma would turn her nose right up in the air at the very thought of anything curry. That was before she was invited to dinner by a dear friend whose husband had spent some years in Afghanistan. Curry was one of their favorite meals, so Grandma walked into a dinner of chicken curry, a raw spinach and mushroom salad and corn muffins. You must remember that Grandma was raised by a Southern Lady, to whom it was almost a criminal offense to refuse food that your hostess offered - no picky eating business allowed - so Grandma "suffered through" and curry, along with raw spinach and raw mushroom salad, has become the #1 favorite family meal at Grandma's house.Later on, the woman who cared for one of Grandma's Girls as an infant (no "day care" before they were 2.5 or so back then) was an Indian woman. That particular daughter still thinks of Indian food as home and comfort, so we've broadened our horizons over the years. Thus, Allen Jesson's Chicken Curry and other Delicious Curry Recipes From Around The World is a book after Grandma's own heart.
Allen, who is, BTW, an engaging author, has done a great job of translating most measurements to allow for US cooking, save only the can of coconut milk (coconut milk comes in the same size can in both the US and the UK) and a can of tomatoes - the standard 15 or so ounces can is the right size. You will of course find a recipe for Chicken Tikka Masala (try it if you haven't!) but the one Grandma has her eye on is the Thai Fish Curry made with a Thai Green Curry Paste (recipe included.) Its a dynamite idea for a party and Allen gives a party-sized recipe, but Grandma is going to get busy with a calculator and shrink that recipe down to small. MMMM-MMM Good!
There is an interactive Table of Contents, but it does not link to the Kindle Navigaton Menu. Never mind - the book is short.
